The Opportunity
If you have built your career in acute care emergency nursing and you are ready to step into a leadership role with real scope, this position is worth your full attention. A full-service, 300+ bed hospital in Houston, Texas is seeking a permanent Nurse Manager of Emergency Room — one opening, reporting directly to the ER Director. This is a role where you own the department: clinical quality, staffing, staff education, and operational decision-making across a high-acuity emergency department inside a facility recognized as a Certified Primary Stroke Center with a dedicated cardiac and critical care tower. Scheduling runs Monday through Friday with built-in flexibility.
The employer brings a comprehensive total rewards package that holds up on close inspection. Medical coverage includes many common services at no cost or low copay, along with free telemedicine and free air medical transport. Dental, vision, life, disability, flexible spending, and supplemental coverage options are all available. The 401(k) carries a 100% employer match on 3% to 9% of pay based on years of service. An employee stock purchase plan with a 10% discount, tuition assistance, dependent scholarships, paid family leave, and short- and long-term disability round out what is on the table. Relocation assistance is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Candidates must hold an active RN license and a BSN. A minimum of two years of recent acute care ER leadership experience — within the last year — is required. Strong charge nurse experience in an emergency department setting will also be considered. ACLS and BLS are required. ENPC, PALS, Trauma Nursing Core Course, and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be completed within specified timeframes following the start date.

The Package
Why Houston?
Houston is one of the most genuinely livable large cities in the country, and it tends to surprise people who have not spent real time here. The metro is vast and diverse, with more than 150 distinct neighborhoods — ranging from walkable urban districts to quiet suburban communities with strong schools and low property crime. The Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, sits at the heart of the city and defines Houston's identity as a healthcare capital, which means professional networks, specialty peers, and career resources are built into the landscape. There is no state income tax in Texas, so your earnings go considerably further here than in many comparable markets.
Outdoors, the Gulf Coast is within a two-hour drive, offering year-round fishing, sailing, and beach access. Houston's winters are mild, the spring and fall seasons are genuinely pleasant, and the city's culinary scene is consistently ranked among the best in the country. A thriving arts district, professional sports culture across multiple leagues, and a packed calendar of festivals and cultural events give individuals and families plenty to fill their time. For those with children, top-rated public and private school options are plentiful throughout the greater metro area. Whether you are planting roots or making a deliberate career move, Houston has the infrastructure and the lifestyle to support both.
